In My Mailbox (8)

In My Mailbox by The Story Siren
In my mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren in which you share the books you added to your collection in the past week.
Hi friends!  This week I picked up 10 books, including 4 novellas.  Check them out (clicky for GoodReads):

From the Library:
Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty - So it literally just hit me when typing out Megan's name that this is the same author of Bumped, which I discussed briefly yesterday in my post about reproductive rights in dystopian novels.  I haven't read anything by Megan McCafferty yet, but I hear good things from everyone who read the Jessica Darling books in high school.  I'll be reading this one this month for my book club, and if I like it, I'll probably check out Bumped!
Winter's Passage by Julie Kagawa - An Iron Fey novella bridging between the first book, The Iron King, and the second, The Iron Daughter.
The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa -  I've already blown through The Iron King and Winter's Passage, so I'm sure I'll be reading this one soon despite my looming tbr pile that should take priority.

Bought (Kindle Freebies):
Wool 1, Wool 2 & Wool 3 by Hugh Howey - I know very little about this novella series, but it has high ratings on GoodReads.  Due to the release of the omnibus (collection of Wool 1-5), these first three in the series were free for one day this week on Kindle.  I love novellas, so I snatched them up!

For Review via NetGalley:
Grave Mercy by R.L. LaFevers - You guys!  I totally squeed when I got that beautiful e-mail from NetGalley offering an auto-approved galley of Grave Mercy for 2 days.  I needed all of 2 minutes to get it on my Kindle.  This is the first in a new series, and I think every blogger who's already read and rated on GoodReads has loved it.  At this point I'm just delaying gratification.
Romeo Redeemed by Stacey Jay - Romeo Redeemed is the sequel to Stacey Jay's smash debut, Juliet Immortal.  I really enjoyed Juliet, and will probably have to scrounge up a review before this one comes out.  I'm torn about a sequel, not sure it can stand up or that I'm that interested in Romeo's story, but I'm still planning to check it out!
One Year in Coal Harbor by Polly Horvath - I fell hard for the cover of this MG novel, and it didn't take much more than that to convince me.  But what did was reading that One Night in Coal Harbor is the continuation of Primrose Squarp, star of the Newberry Honor book, Everything On a Waffle.  I haven't read this one yet either...but it's called Everything On a Waffle.  Need I say more?
The Stone Girl by Alyssa B. Sheinmel - I haven't read any books about eating disorders before, but this one sounds like it's going to be a great place to start.

Since the covers of The Stone Girl and Romeo Redeemed aren't necessarily final (and in the case of Romeo Redeemed I hope to God it's not final), I thought I'd post the ARC covers here, and included each author's former work in the widget.  Also don't forget, there's one week left to win a copy of The Humming Room by Ellen Potter--an adorable middle grade retelling of The Secret Garden.  What books did you get this week?

  1. So glad you're enjoying the Iron Fey series. I devoured them all one after the other :)
    Awesome haul.

  2. If I wasn't on a netgalley ban and I had the availability to read Grave Mercy I would. I can't wait to read reviews for this one.

    Happy Reading

  3. I am SO STOKED to read Grave Mercy! I really, really need to ASAP. I can't wait to see your thoughts! Enjoy all your new books :)

  4. oh... I love Sloppy firsts... that is such a great series! and yay for some fab netgalley grabs! hope you enjoy all of your books!! happy reading!

  5. I also got Grave Mercy and The Stone Girl from Netgalley this week. And I've heard Sloppy Firsts is a lot of fun, it's definitely on my to-read list!:)

  6. Great set! I can't wait to read Grave Mercy. I read Sloppy Firsts years ago but barely remember it.

  7. First of all GRAVE MERCY --> read it NOW! Or at least as soon as you can. Oh my gracious. I recently found Sloppy Firsts at my Goodwill - I'm not the hugest fan of contemporary books but at 75 cents, I couldn't pass it up with everyone gushing over the series so much. Eventually I will get to it! And The Iron Fey series...YAY TO YOU for reading it. It is one of my absolute favorites, period. The Nevernever is magical. That is all.

  8. The Jessica Darling series is MY FAVORITE EVER, so I really really hope you enjoy Sloppy Firsts!

  9. I'm so late on the Iron Fey series. I haven't started it O_O But I've got books 1,2 & 3 that,s a start right!? haha. Great haul!

  10. I really need to read the Jessica Darling series. I've heard such great things about it since I started blogging, but I still haven't gotten around to them.

  11. I need to jump on this meme! I plan to read Romeo Redeemed and Grave Mercy this week as well! :]

  12. I am so freakin envious of Romeo Redeemed.

The Jessica Darling books are like YA foundations, I mean, it's kind of like the bible for me. Like, Jessica is awesome and sarcastic and smart and just totally grows as a character through the series in a way that feels real. ALSO MARCUS FLUTIE is all you need to know.

Share your thoughts, I love to hear them!
