In my mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren in which you share the books you added to your collection in the past week.
Hi friends! This week was all about the puffin love! So….here’s a little fact you may not know about me: I love puffins. I adore them. They are my all time favorite birds, and one of my overall favorite animals. I make my boyfriend divert down the organic isle at the grocery store just so I can squee at the cartoon puffin on the Puffin brand cereal boxes (though I’ve been quite put out since they reduced the size and visibility of said puffin). My dream vacation is to this island in Scotland where there are lots of puffins and otters (another of my favorite animals). One of our first dates was to Sea World, where my boyfriend let me spend an inordinate amount of time in the puffin section. I honestly don’t know why so many people are into penguins when there’s puffins in the world—they swim and fly which makes them far superior in my mind.
ANYWAY this week I get to express my puffin love in my mailbox! First off, I got to pick up Neversink by Barry Wolverton from the library, a MG title I have been dying for as of course it has a puffin protagonist. And then this evening I came home from dinner to find a Puffin post card from Chachic! Chachic, of Chachic’s Book Nook, is one of the sweetest bloggers out there, and because I got so excited when I saw she’d picked up the Puffin Books postcard package, she was kind enough to send me one starring my beloved bird!
I also picked up two audiobooks:
American on Purpose: the Improbable Adventures of an Unlikely Patriot by Craig Ferguson
I’ve been wanting to read the memoirs of one of my favorite comedians, and absolutely favorite show host for some time. Then, Jac of For Love and Books posted a review of the audiobook a couple weeks back, and I realized that since Craig Ferguson reads it himself, of course this was the format for me! I’ve already started in on this one.
The Disreputable History of Franki Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
This is my book club’s selection for May. I’ve never listened to an audiobook for book club instead of reading it, but I’m going to give it a go this time round. This will be my first E. Lockhart.
This week of Bunburying
Review: Shadows on the Moon by Zoë Marriot
Top Ten Favorite Fairy Tales/Retellings
Salute Your Shorts: Winter’s Passage: An Iron Fey novella by Julie Kagawa
Waiting on Wednesday: The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There by Catherynne M. Valente

Review: Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews
Oh, it’s on! Dewey’s Readathon
This week I’ve participated in two events that I’ve loved, including my first Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon and Fairy Tale Fortnight. I encourage you to check out the fun, particularly Fairy Tale Fortnight which will continue through the end of the month! What about you, are you participating in the Readathon? Which books have you conquered?
Puffins fly? How did I not know that?! They totally kick penguins' butts, in that case.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you must have an awesome boyfriend. :)
They do, but they don't fly very well, kind of dopey. I love it!
DeleteAnd yes, I have an amazing boyfriend. =)
I read The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks last year and it was pretty good. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteAgain with the Neversink action! My library doesn't have it yet, but I'm going to read it some way, somehow! And I can't wait to see what you think of Frankie. I loved it, but two of my bookish friends weren't so crazy about it. You're the tie-breaker!
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know! I've heard this is one of those that a lot of people don't like, and I really know nothing about it, so I'm excited to see where I fall.
DeleteI love the libraryyyyyy.
ReplyDeleteALSO NEVERSINK ROCKS!
Sea World is so much fun! :-)
I am loving your passion for puffins! It's so cute! They are a very attractive bird. This will make you jealous but I went on a boat trip to Alderney once to see puffins sitting on a special island (I don't think they go there anymore for some reason!) I went to University in Scotland so I should've gone on a puffin trip then too- I didn't know there was a special puffin place up there!
ReplyDeleteNice books anyway- I haven't read any of them but the puffin protagonist is intriguing! I will be looking out for your review of that one fo sho x
OMG that does make me totally jealous! That's so awesome. I hope the University of Scotland was amazing.
DeleteThe Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks is SO SO good. When I grow up, I want to be Frankie. Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, puffins rule:)
DeleteI love the mythology in Neversink - very clever. I hope it suits your puffin-love!
ReplyDeleteOur IMM is at Book Sake. –Jessica
I love how enthusiastic you are for puffins! So glad the postcard arrived safe and sound. And Neversink looks like the perfect book for you, I hope you enjoy reading it. :) I don't think I have a favorite animal (maybe dogs?)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chachic! I am LOVING Neversink so far, it's everything I love about a middle grade book. Very fun and lighthearted, but with a real story in there.
DeleteI was never good at picking favorite anything because there's always too many choices, and the truth is I'm a huge animal lover in general. I do love dogs too though! Just not the little yappy kind...
I can't wait to read Neversink! And I've been meaning to read The Disreputable History for ages. Hope you enjoy everything :]
